Several ISP's offer local Calvet dial-up access. Major ISP's such as AOL and Earthlink were slow in setting up local access numbers.
Now, Verizon DSL is available in some areas of the County. The rates have been reduced recently to compete with cable (Comcast).
Cable connections are now available, but are very expensive and seems to be sporadically unreliable.
The latest evolution is the introduction of WiFi hotspotsat hotels*, the Courthouse, various businesses, the hospital, and yes, there's a Starbucks. The library is considering WiFi, but don't hold your breath.
Despite these limitations, county residents, organizations, and businesses are using the Internetfor advertising, communication, information, and fun.
Interest in the Internet is growing in the County providing pressure for increasing provider services and upgrading telephone lines.
